Sam and Friends Help a Fisherman

One day the baby subs, Eddie, Freddie, Maisie, Daisie and Sam hear two fishermen talking on their boat in a near-by berth.

“Yes, Mark,” says the first fisherman, called Hugh, “The engine of this boat does sound poorly, and if it breaks down I do not know what I will do. I do not have enough money to replace the engine, so we will not be able to go out to our lobster pots any more.”

The baby subs talk about what they have heard, but do not know what they can do to help.

Later that day they go out on their exercises. When they dive they see something that was not there before. The strong winds and currents have uncovered the wreck of an old wooden ship that has been hidden in the sands for hundreds of years.

They go close to look at it. Something is shining in the ship. They see two plates made of pure gold!

Maisie has an idea. She tells Eddie and Freddie to pick up the two gold plates and put them in Hugh and Fred’s lobster pots.

When the fishermen pull up their pots later that day they find the gold plates. They are very surprised! The gold plates are called treasure trove and worth a lot of money. Mark and Hugh agree that the money will be used to buy a new engine for the boat; which is just what Maisie had planned!

Hugh said to Mark, “Mark, I just do not understand what has happened. It makes you believe in fairies.”

“Or mermaids!” said Mark.

Next day the strong winds and currents have covered up the wreck once more, so no one knew where the gold plates had come from. But we do, don’t we!
